About
my work and Oneiric Animal series

In
this series of work I've altered the subject before me in a simple and whimsical
way in order to capture something beyond the seen image. Work exhibited in
the Gallery link are reflections of my travels
and experiences during these past years: literal and abstract interpretations
of various encounters.
Travels
to places like Mexico, Peru, Indonesia, India, China and Africa have inspired
me to paint images from these places as well as apply some of the graphic
styles used in these countries. My trip to Namibia in 2000 was the main inspiration
of using animals as a subject matter for a new series of work. Later, I rendered
some older sketches done in Mexico and the Amazon. Here my fine art and design
background merged together to create a series of batik-style watercolors called
‘Oneiric Animals’; 'oneiric', like an animal in a child's dream. The batik
style of painting was chosen as an adaptive form of reproducing them on cloth
(see Batik Shirt link). Below is a selection
from the series to be represented on shirts, following are the first three
productions.
